Dysphagia after Thyroid Surgery
Park Young-Hak

Choi Ji-Young
Abstract
Understanding the pathophysiology and management of dysphagia after thyroidectomy is important, because patients often complain of swallowing problem in their postoperative course. The etiologies range from mild dysphagia caused by pain or swelling at the wound to more serious or permanent causes such as vocal fold paralysis. Diagnosis of dysphagia in thyroidectomy patient should begin with clinical evaluation and confirmed by videfluorocsopy or videoendoscopy. Dysphagia after thyroidectomy can be best managed with application of conservative treatment, compensatory maneuvers and surgical treatment depending on the cause of dysphagia.
